Welcome to Gåte Restaurant in Stellenbosch. Imagine a culinary adventure that is refreshingly rooted in Southern Africa, an adventure filled with surprises, one which captures your imagination and engages your senses.
This is the promise of our Quoin Rock restaurant dining experience at our restaurant, Gåte, pronounced “gah-tey”. The Norwegian origin of the word translates as ‘the entrance of a labyrinth’ or a ‘riddle’, symbolising a gateway to an extraordinary dining experience and a delightful puzzle to be decoded. Seating only 40 people, Gåte provides an intimate and inspiring fine dining experience as one of the best restaurants in Stellenbosch.

All dishes at Gåte Restaurant include at least one ingredient grown on the Quoin Rock Wine Estate. All ingredients are sourced locally to ensure maximum freshness and to support our local community.

A variation of menus at Gåte start from three-course daytime dining to the full Chef’s experience of a seven-course dinner.
No matter which menu you choose, our dishes combine flavours that make you pause, shut your eyes and draw on your imagination.

Gåte Restaurant pairs each dish with Quoin Rock Estate wines, including Quoin Rock Shiraz, Quoin Rock Red blend, our Black Series MCC and our Rose Bellini Namysto Festive series MCC.
We also offer tea-pairing during COVID-19 regulations and for those who prefer not to drink wine. Teas are chosen with equal care to enhance the flavour of the food.

Our day-time experience may include Gåte’s lunch menu, or an open-air Stellenbosch picnic. If you would love a small taste of something special while exploring the Stellenbosch area, opt for a charcuterie platter while enjoying a Quoin Rock wine tasting.
