‘Content’: Celebrated South African Artist Showcase Their Work
Quoin Rock Wine Estate is preparing for its inaugural art exhibition taking place from 8 December 2020 to 28 March 2021. This contemporary photography art exhibition will take you on a beautiful and inspiring journey, showcasing some of South Africa’s celebrated artists.
The group exhibition is titled “Content”. Participating artists include the late photography master David Goldblatt, established photographer Ashley Walters and exciting new artists Noncedo Gxekwa, Strauss Louw, Elsa Smit and Nina Zimolong. Except for David Goldblatt’s, all the artists’ work will be unveiled for the first time at this showcase. The exhibition will be curated by esteemed photographer Daniel Naudé, who is famous for his striking animal photography.
The artists have drawn inspiration from the theme, “Content”, and their interpretations have resulted in a meandering cultural journey presented to the viewer through the lenses of South African photographers. Sometimes stark interpretations of a frozen moment in time; sometimes kaleidoscopic swirls creating reinterpretations of the original subject; often bold, unapologetic reality laid bare. Reflections on the past. New ways of viewing the present. Tentative anticipation for the future. A visual meditation on the world around us.
Mirroring the philosophy of Quoin Rock Wine Estate and its current custodians, the Gaiduk family, “Content” brings together art, intellect and passion. Visitors will have the chance to explore the estate as they make their way through the cellar walkway, Gåte restaurant and the sprawling lawn areas where the artwork will be displayed.
Visitors will be able to admire the works by means of a self-guided audio tour, available English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, French and German. Informational plaques on display will also add to the visitor experience.
There is no charge to view the exhibition.
Display dates and times: Monday to Sunday (11am – 4pm), 8 December 2020 to 28 March 2021
